Mountains, mountains and more mountains……. (and glens…)

Welcome to the An Teallach Mountaineering Club website. We are a small, but active, national club.  We believe that we are forward-thinking, open, welcoming and varied club. ATMC has members from up and down the UK and beyond, and concentrate on walking and scrambling in the highlands of Scotland, although we venture further afield and sometimes use bikes, canoes and skis. Around a third of our members are female, and the age range is 19 to 8*, although most of us are in the middle.

We are currently looking for a few new members, so please read on and get in touch if you want to know more.

  1. Dear Brian (and ATMC) Over the last decade, I have occasionally stayed at the wonderful Strawberry Cottage, and been very grateful for its use. It’s a great location, and a great hut. I hope to use it again this year. I am a member of the MC of S, and my use would likely be off peak and mid week. It slightly worried me that you say on your website that a normal minimum of 8 people is required to book the hut. I don’t think I could manage to gather 8 people I’m afraid, and last time stayed with 2 and 3 others respectively. I’m hoping that this isn’t a problem. I am more than happy not to have “exclusive” use of the hut, providing that others are willing to put up with me! Maybe you could confirm whether some flexibility is possible on this issue, as I’ve really enjoyed staying at the hut.Being a young father, with all my friends in a similar position, it’s hard to gather 8 for the hill at once!….unless you allow it to be used as creche!!

    Best Wishes,
    Garry Walker

    • Hi Garry

I am pleased to here your comments about the cottage and they are most welcome for our members that work hard to keep it wonderful. Please be assured that our booking policy hasn’t changed as a result of the new website. Obviously bookings of 8+ are preferable from an admin perspective, but our bookings secretatry (Sandy) always tries to be flexible, especially midweek and away from peak weekends. Drop him an enquiry with dates. PS Our club is looking for new members and we have several young parents who have found themselves in similar situations and breadth of membership in our club. Best regards.

      • Dear Brian,
Thanks very much for your prompt reply. I am glad that I won’t have to press-gang friends in order to make up the required minimum! Most of them are wise to my hill exploits, and either move abroad or commit crimes in order to receive the relative safety of Her Majesty’s prisons! I will in due course be in touch with Sandy about a booking. Club membership is also of interest, though recently we have been more often abroad than in Scotland. If the future permits us more access to the Scottish Hills, then I would be seriously inclined to join. Are you geographically centred somewhere, or a national club whose meets are mountain based; i.e, do you have social meets? Thanks again for the use of Strawberry Cottage; I do appreciate it.
        Best,
        Garry
