An Teallach Mountaineering Club

3rd TO 5TH APRIL 1992 JACOBITE CLUB HUT ACHNASHEEN

Raymond Anderson, Willie Bain, Patsy and Rod Brodie, Frank Coutts,Alan and Neil Dryden, Joe Duffin,Tom and Tony Mason, plus 4 Jacobites including 2 FEBs, an Irishman and a Scots Lass.

Arrived Friday evening to find water supply knackered and unrepairable. This resulted in a Bucket Rotation between the burn and hut. (100 metres)
Saturday 4th. Weather fine. Broken cloud at abase of approx. 2800 feet. Snow level 2000 feet.
Patsy and Rod took a long drive to climb 3 hills in Glen Affric.
Tom, Tony, Raymond, Neil, and Alan set off to climb Maoile Lunndaidh, Sgurr Choinnich and Sgurr a Chaorachain. The Club Flyers got off to an even better start than usual by hitching a lift up Gleann Fhiodaig to Glenvaig Lodge. (Tut tut chaps)
Frank, Joe, Willie, Neil, and Dave headed for Sgurr Choinnich and Sgurr a Chaorachain, and in true An Teallach club spirit walked all the way. They met two back-packing Krauts who endured intensive interrogation from Frank before he decided they were not a national security risk and released them. they were last seen fully laden heading over the Bealach Bhearnais. Having had splendid views of the surrounding snow clad hills, including in the distance Liathach and An Teallach, the weather deteriorated with heavy snow and bad visibility on the high ground. The lower slopes were awash with rain. However, most members of #:6e each party made good use of ice axes and a few took advantage of the conditions to practice wearing crampons. All parties arrived back at the hut very wet but having completed their intended routes.
EVENING After substantial quantities of good food had been devoured, and an adequate roasting from the pleasing coal fire the Sagatour members settled into a game of bridge and told bed-time stories. Meanwhile the young bucks headed of into the darkness to sample the night life at the Achnasheen Hotel.
SUNDAY 5th Weather; low cloud , wet.
Patsy and Rod set off to visit Patsy's father, bearing our good wishes.
Tom, Tony, Neil, Alan and Raymond: Fionn Bheinn. By all accounts a pretty uninteresting hill. All credit to them they did not on this occasion accept any lifts.
Frank, Joe, Willie, Neil and Dave: Fuar Tholl (Joe's choice) By car to Achnashellach Station by which time the rain was horizontal ( Only if you lay on your back -- Ed). On arrival a group decision was made in 0.001 of a second to take up Frank's offer of coffee at Strathcarron Hotel. It would have been wrong to offend Frank. The Golden Oldies arrived back at the hut : soon to be followed by the A Team. Tea and sandwiches and a bit of a blether, followed by a clean out , and we were on our way by 2p.m.
A good weekend in a well situated hut. Well worth a return visit.
